Cost: $40 per girl; adults free

Come to Camp Marshall to learn National Rifl e Association rules for safe gun handling, shooting fundamentals, range rules and opportunities for skill development. The program includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifl es and is a prerequisite to join competitive rifl e shooting teams. Be prepared and dress for the outside. Closed-toed shoes required. Participants must be at least 12 years old at time of program. Book your program with 50% down; fi nal balance due two weeks prior to event. Open to troops and girls with an adult.

Go for Gold Orientation

Thinking about going for your Gold Award, the most prestigious award in Girl Scouting? This workshop is a must for any girl who wants to earn her Gold Award or is interested in learning more. While not required, attending a Go for Gold workshop can be the most beneficial thing you can do before beginning to work on the Girl Scout Gold Award. Workshops provide valuable information about the process and suggestions about projects. Register through GSCWM by August 13.

Monarch Butterfly Tagging

Date: Saturday, September 5, 2015

Place: Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary, Princeton
Cost: $7 per girl

Start off your troop year by getting outdoors, learning about nature, helping wildlife and having fun! The annual migration of eastern monarch butterflies to Mexico (and back) is one of the most remarkable and endangered events in nature. Help scientists learn more about monarch migration by participating in a continent-wide citizen science research project in our sanctuary meadows. We'll gently tag and release monarchs while learning about other fall butterflies and finding out how to help monarchs in our own backyards. Workshop space is limited.

Scouting Day 2015 at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University

Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine is hosting its annual Scouting Day for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts who are interested in working on veterinary-related badges. Scouting Day is held in conjunction with Tufts' annual Open House and will include workshops and activities designed to fulfill badge requirements and to teach you about veterinary medicine. You must be at least 12 years of age. Availability for this great opportunity is limited and will fill fast. Registration opens in early August and is first-come, first-served. Camp Cook-Off, Night Explorer

High Adventure by night. During this event we will have a cook-off to see which team can make the most interesting campfire meals.  We will also spend time during darkness to explore the night sky. We will do some night hiking to see what wildlife we can see.

Ongoing Programs

Horses, Horses, Horses

Date: Schedule Your Own Date
Time: 9:00 AM - Noon
Place: Camp Marshall, Spencer
Cost: $20 per girl; adults free

Journey into the horse world as you learn all about horse safety, standard  etiquette, grooming and leading a horse. You’ll also explore the tack and learn about the equipment and how to care for it. Look into the future to see what jobs are available in the equine world. No need to worry about the weather, we’re gathering in an indoor arena! Wear long pants and heeled boots, if possible. Add an introductory 1/2 hour group riding lesson, where you will learn how to mount, dismount, walk, turn and stop your horse for an additional cost of $15.00 per girl. Book your program with 50% down; final balance due two weeks prior to event. Open to troops and girls with an adult.

Tree-to-Tree Adventure

In our forest setting, the trees are anchors for a series of trails that wind up, across, between and through the forest. Fun twists and challenging obstacles are everywhere! Whether you’re closer to the ground on a yellow beginner trail or high up on a double-black diamond, you’re one with nature and alive with a series of accomplishments! You can work on your Staying Fit, Trees or Adventurer badges while on an inspiring adventure that only nature can deliver! This is more than your average high ropes course adventure! Bird Marionette Workshop

This fun and colorful workshop will take 2 hours and includes not only making the puppets, but also learning how to make them dance! This workshop can be customized to make specific birds if that is of interest to your group. The participants will be stringing beads, tying knots, and even making their own tools to complete their marionettes…not to mention all the feather fun too! So come be a puppeteer and leave with a feathered friend. You’ll be glad you did!

Sock Puppet Workshop

Worms, dogs, people…the sky’s the limit! Come use your creativity to make a one-of-a-kind friend, and then learn the endless ways you can use your puppet for fun, education and entertainment!

Forensics

Grab your friends and come join the investigation!  Team up with Elms College’s Finest Forensic Scientists and  learn  all about Fingerprinting, DNA Analysis, Blood Splatter Anaylysis, and even participate in a mock crime scene investigation! *A limited number of registered, CORI'd adults are needed to volunteer for the day. Journey into the horse would as you learn all about horse safety, standard etiquette, grooming, and leading a horse. Scouts will learn standard horse etiquette, grooming and leading a horse. You'll also explore the tack room and learn about the equipment and its care. Look in the future of what jobs are available in the Equine World, and a solid understanding of basic horsemanship skills. Scouts Advanced Horse Person/Rider Certificate.

The EcoTarium's Great Pumpkin Fest

Scout Orienteering Weekend

Place: Nobscot Scout Reservation, Sudbury
Cost: $10 for 1 Day; $18 for 2 Days per girl; $10 for 1 Day; $18 for 2 Days per adult

Spend a day or the weekend enjoying outdoor adventures while learning and practicing map and compass skills! Saturday's program is skill development, training and practice. For first-time orienteers, an experienced instructor will work with your group to help you learn orienteering skills. Camping out? Try a variation of the traditional foot orienteering at night! Stay through Sunday to participate in the annual New England Scout Orienteering Championship. Fees only cover the maps, courses, program and event patch to the first 400 paid registrants. If your troop is camping on Saturday night, reservations must be made directly through the Knox Trail Council by calling Marcella Saunders at (508)872-6551 for an additional fee. Concession stand available on both days. For more information call Bud O'Leary at 978-886-1371. This event usually fills before the deadline so early registration is encouraged. Do not register for a camping site until you have received your orienteering confirmation letter.
